
The $408 million redevelopment of Mackay Base Hospital is part of a major expansion of health services for the north Queensland community.
The redeveloped hospital, covering almost 40,000 square metres, is being designed to meet the projected growth in demand for health services out to 2020/2021, thus, will increase its bed capacity to 318 beds, from the current 160 beds, all but doubling its current capacity.
The hospital is a vital component in Queensland Health's vision to deliver state-of-the-art health facilities and services that cater for the extraordinary population growth in the region.
The redeveloped Mackay Base Hospital will be equipped with leading edge technology to assist staff to provide the highest level of care and comfort to our patients.

Located on the Bridge Road, West Mackay, the Mackay Base Hospital will provide specialised health services that meet the needs of patients and the learning requirements of students. Project design and construction teams have been working hard to bring the hospital to life, and the project is both on time and on budget for completion in 2013.
The existing hospital has and must continue to remain operational throughout the entire period of the construction works. As a result of this requirement redevelopment works must be extensively planned to ensure minimal impact to the hospital. |

To ensure the redevelopment meets the health needs of the community consultation with key stakeholders will occur throughout the redevelopment. Key stakeholders and interest groups will be consulted in response to evolving information and redevelopment requirements.
There will be ongoing discussions with the Mackay Regional Council regarding the proposed redeveloped hospital and site designation process.
